  • Coders evaluate medical records and may need to contact healthcare providers if the paperwork is unclear, incomplete, or inconsistent. Effective contact with clinicians is critical for resolving any ambiguities and gathering the information required for appropriate coding.
  • Coders insert the assigned codes into the electronic health record (EHR) or billing system of the healthcare facility. This information is utilized for a variety of purposes, including as billing, insurance claims, and healthcare analytics.
  • Compliance with Coding rules: Medical coders must stay current on coding rules and regulations, which may change on a regular basis. They must be informed of any changes or alterations to the code sets with which they operate.
