Medical Coding is the conversion of a patient's healthcare diagnosis, treatment received, equipment used during the treatment, procedures, signs and symptoms and more into alphanumeric codes. These codes are really important as they make up the whole payment claim. The medical codes generated are sent to insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purposes.
Medical Coders uses a set of previously assigned code for coding purpose. These includes ICD, CPT and HCPCS. CPT codes are procedural codes and HCPCS codes are codes denoting the equipment used during a healthcare services.
