MEDICAL CODING
Medical Coding is the transformation of a patients' diagnosis, prescriptions, treatment received, equipment used during a healthcare procedure into alphanumeric codes. These codes are later billed to insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purposes, hence these codes must be accurate.
Medical Coders uses a set of previously assigned codes to generate codes based on the patients diseases. These codes includes ICD, CPT and HCPCS Codes. ICD Codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of codes published and managed by WHO, World Health Organisation. These codes are set of diagnostic codes which denotes diagnosis, signs and symptoms or any other abnormal findings. For instance, ICD Codes, I46.9 denotes Cardiac Arrest.
Cardiac Arrest is the sudden loss of heart function breathing and consciousness. In cardiac arrest, the heart abruptly stops beating, which can even lead to a persons death. The main symptoms of cardiac arrest is loss of consciousness and unresponsiveness. This condition will be needing sudden CPR use or use of defibrillator.
