MEDICAL CODING
Medical Coding is the conversion of a patient's healthcare diagnosis, treatment received, treatment received, equipment used by a healthcare professional or a doctor into universally accepted alphanumeric codes. These are important as they make up the whole claim for payment purpose.
Medical Coders use a set of codes for coding purpose, which includes ICD, CPT and HCPCS. CPT codes or Current Procedural Terminology are codes used for procedures done and HCPCS are Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System are codes used denoting, equipment used during healthcare procedure.
ICD Codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of diagnostic codes denoting, diagnosis, signs and symptoms or any other abnormal findings of a patient. For instance ICD Code, E24.9 denotes Cushing's syndrome.
Cushing Syndrome occurs when one's body has too much of cortisol. This must be probably due to the intake of oral corticosteroid medication or one's body might produce too much.
Common signs and symptoms of Cushing Syndrome includes :
- Weight gain
- Pink or purple stretch marks
- Fragile skin that bruises quickly
- Slow healing of bruises
- Acne.
