MEDICAL CODING

The process of turning diagnoses, treatments, services, and equipment into common medical alphanumeric codes in order to establish a patient's medical records is known as medical coding. Medical Coders utilize a set of codes to code medical records. These codes are then billed to insurance companies in order to obtain reimbursement for payment procedures.

The purpose of Medical Coding includes :

  • Billing and reimbursement: Correct coding ensures that healthcare professionals may bill insurance companies, government programs (such as Medicare and Medicaid), and patients for the services they deliver. It aids in the correct reimbursement of medical services.
  • Data Analysis: Coded data is employed in a variety of healthcare analytics and research applications. It enables healthcare organizations and governments to monitor disease patterns, treatment outcomes, and healthcare utilization.
  • Patient Care Coordination: Medical codes let healthcare practitioners share patient information. They provide uniform communication of diagnosis, procedures, and treatments, resulting in seamless patient care coordination.
  • Quality Improvement: Healthcare facilities analyze the quality of treatment provided and find opportunities for improvement in patient outcomes and healthcare processes using coded data.
