Duties of a Medical Coder includes :
- Accounts for patient encounter coding and abstracting, including diagnostic and procedural information, key reportable elements, and complications.
- Investigates and evaluates data requirements for reimbursement.

- Serves as a resource and subject matter expert to other members of the coding team.
- Examines and confirms paperwork that supports diagnoses, procedures, and treatment outcomes.
- Recognizes diagnostic and procedural data.
- Audits clinical paperwork and coded data to ensure that the documentation supports the services provided for reimbursement and reporting.
