MEDICAL CODING
Medical coding is the process of extracting healthcare information from a doctor's note, such as medical procedures, diagnoses, essential medical equipment, and medical services. This information is converted into universal medical alphanumeric codes by a medical coder. International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding (HCPCS) are the three most common types of widely recognised medical alphanumeric codes.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) designed and manages the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). The classification system is primarily used for health records and data collection, among other things. These codes can be used to categories symptoms, diseases, illnesses, and causes of death. ICD classification F51.9, for example, suggests a sleeping problem or insomnia.
Insomnia is characterized by trouble falling or remaining asleep during the night. Insomnia can deplete not just your energy and mood, but also your health, job performance, and overall quality of life. Insomnia may be the fundamental issue, or it may be a side effect of another medical condition or medication. Insomnia symptoms may include difficulty falling asleep, lying awake for long periods of time at night, waking up several times during the night, waking up early in the morning and being unable to return to sleep, not feeling refreshed when you wake up, difficulty napping during the day, feeling tired and irritable during the day, and difficulty concentrating.
