MEDICAL CODING
The conversion of healthcare diagnoses, procedures, medical services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes is known as medical coding. A medical coder is a health information specialist who uses a classification system to assess medical records and standard codes. For reporting recipient care to the health insurance provider, a medical coder may use a set of published codes on medical diagnosis and procedure such as the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), the Healthcare Common Procedural Coding system (HCPCS), and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT).
The worldwide categorization of Diseases (ICD) is intended to increase worldwide comparability in patient status collection, processing, categorization, and presentation. This includes establishing a structure for reporting a patient's medical condition and diagnosis. ICD G91.9, for example, denotes Hydrocephalus.
The abnormal collection of fluid in the ventricles deep within the brain is known as hydrocephalus. This extra fluid expands the ventricles, placing pressure on the brain's tissues. Hydrocephalus is caused by an imbalance in the amount of cerebrospinal fluid produced and absorbed into the bloodstream.
Typical signs and symptoms include:
- disproportionately huge head
- Rapidly rising head circumference
- Fontanelle bulging and tense, or soft area
- Visible scalp veins
- Downward eye deviation
- Vomiting
- Sleepiness
- Irritability, etc.
