MEDICAL CODING
Medical coding is the process of converting patient diagnoses and treatments into predefined codes. It is used to manage patient records and submit claims to insurance companies. Medical coders give codes based on the information provided by healthcare providers.
These codes are used to describe diseases, injuries, symptoms, and procedures. Medical coding is required to be compensated by insurance companies and government schemes. Medical coders employ a set of allocated codes during coding. These are mostly ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) publishes and manages the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) Codes. These codes include any signs, symptoms, or odd behaviors. Cerebral palsy, for example, is denoted by ICD Code G80.9.
Cerebral Palsy is caused by faulty brain development, which usually occurs before birth. It is a movement disorder that impairs muscle tone and posture. People with cerebral palsy may have difficulty swallowing and may have eye muscle imbalance, in which both eyes do not concentrate on the same thing.
Some of the symptoms may include difficulties walking, muscle rigidity, persistent muscle shortening, delayed growth, speech delay or stuttering in a kid, hearing loss, tremor, and others.
Long-term treatment may include physical and other therapies, medications, and, in some cases, surgery. This condition may endure for years or be permanent. Treatment can be beneficial, but this condition cannot be cured.
