MEDICAL CODING
Medical coders collect medical reports from doctors, which may contain a patient's condition, the doctor's diagnosis, a prescription, and any operations performed on the patient, and convert them into a set of codes that form an important component of the medical claim. ICD, CPT, and HCPCS are the three sets of codes.
The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes are a set of codes published and controlled by the World Health Organisation (WHO). These codes include a patient's diagnosis, signs and symptoms, and any other aberrant findings. Polyp Of Nasal Cavity, for example, is denoted by ICD code J33.0.
A nasal polyp is a soft, noncancerous growth that forms on the nasal cavity or sinus lining. They are typically the result of persistent inflammation induced by allergies or other irritants. Stuffy nose, runny nose, loss of smell, and face pressure or pain are all symptoms of nasal polyps. Medication and, in certain cases, surgery may be used to treat the condition.
