MEDICAL CODING
Medical Coding is the process of converting a patients' healthcare diagnosis, prescriptions, treatment received, procedures and more information about the patient into alphanumeric codes. These codes are later billed to insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purposes.
Medical Coders uses a set of previously assigned codes for coding purpose, which includes ICD, CPT and HCPCS Codes. ICD codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of diagnostic codes set by World Health Organisation. CPT Codes or Current Procedural Terminology are set of codes which denotes the procedures taken place during a healthcare treatment and HCPCS Codes or Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System are the set of codes indicating the equipment used during a healthcare procedure.
International Classification of Diseases or ICD Codes are set of diagnostic codes indicating the signs and symptoms, causes for illness and death and diagnosis and of a patient. For instance ICD Code H40.9 denotes Glaucoma.
Glaucoma is a group of eye disease that can cause vision loss and blindness by damaging a nerve in the back of your eye called the optic nerve. The symptoms can start so slowly.
