Medical Coding is the conversion of a patients' diagnosis, treatment received, prescriptions, equipment used during a healthcare process into universally accepted alphanumeric codes. These codes must be accurate as they make up the whole payment claim. Medical Billers bills these codes to claim insurance for the payment of patient's bill.
Medical Coders uses a set of previously assigned codes for coding purpose. For example, ICD Codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of diagnostic codes set aside by WHO fr denoting, diagnosis, signs and symptoms, cause of illness or a death. For instance ICD Code, C46.0 denotes Kaposi Sarcoma of Skin.
Kaposi Sarcoma is a type of cancer that causes lesions in the soft tissues. This cancer causes lesions to grow on skin, lymph nodes, internal organs, and mucous membranes lining the mouth, nose and throat. It often affects people with immune deficiencies such as HIV or AIDS.
Purple, red or brown blotches are a common signs. There is also a possibility of developing tumors in other areas of the body. Treatment may include include radiation or chemotherapy, rarely, surgery may be required. Cough, fever, mouth ulcer, plaque,are also common.
