MEDICAL CODING
Medical Coding is the transformation of a patients healthcare diagnosis, prescriptions, treatment received, equipment used during a healthcare procedure into alphanumeric codes. Medical Coders generate these codes by extracting information from the physicians notes, lab results and other notes. Medical Coders uses a set of previously assigned codes for coding purpose, which includes, ICD, CPT and HCPCS codes.
ICD Codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of diagnostic codes published and managed by WHO, World Health Organisation. These codes contains, diagnosis, signs and symptoms, or any other abnormal findings on a patient. For instance, ICD Code, C95.90 denotes leukemia.
Leukemia is cancer of the body's blood forming tissues, including the bone marrow and the lymphatic systems. This obstruct the body's ability to fight infections. There many types of leukemia exists, the acute and chronic. Acute type of leukemia doesn't have any symptoms. Rapidly growing types of leukemia cause symptoms like fatigue, weight loss, frequent infections and easy bleeding or bruising.
