Medical Coding is the process of taking a patient's healthcare information like medical procedures , diagnosis, necessary medical equipment and treatment received into universal codes.  A medical coder may use a set of published codes on medical diagnoses and procedures such as the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), the Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS) and Current Procedural Terminology(CPT) for reporting to the health insurance provider of the recipient of the care.

                                   

                                A clinical coder requires a good knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, a basic knowledge of clinical procedures and diseases and injuries and other conditions, medical illustrations, clinical documentation, legal and ethical aspects of health information etc.

                                  ICD or international classification of diseases is listed by world health organisation (WHO). It contains codes for diseases, signs and symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, social circumstances and external causes of injury or diseases. For instance, K90.81 denotes Whipple's disease.                          


 Whipple disease is a rare bacterial infection that most often affects your joints and digestive system. Whipple disease interferes with normal digestion by impairing breakdown of foods, and hampering your body's ability to absorb nutrients such as fats and carbohydrates.

                       Tropheryma whipplei bacteria cause Whipple’s disease. This bacteria can be found everywhere in the environment, but infection is very rare.

  • Weight loss , associated with absorption of nutrients

  • chest pain
  • difficulty walking
