Medical Coding is the process of assigning alphanumeric codes to patient's diagnosis, treatment received and equipment used into alphanumeric codes. Medical Billing is the process of billing these generated codes to insurance company so as to claim insurance for payment purpose. These codes must be accurate as they make up the whole payment claim.
Medical Coders uses a set of previously assigned codes for coding purpose which includes ICD,CPT and HCPCS. CPT Codes or Current Procedural Terminology are set of codes which denotes procedures in a healthcare system, HCPCS or Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System are set of Codes which denotes equipment used in a healthcare procedures.
ICD Codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of codes published and managed by World Health Organization (WHO) which denotes signs and symptoms or any other abnormal findings on a patient. For instance ICD Code, C95. 90 denotes Leukemia.
