MEDICAL CODING
Medical coding is the process of converting healthcare operations, diagnoses, treatments received, equipment utilized, or any other discoveries on a patient into internationally recognised alphanumeric codes. These codes must be exact because they comprise the entire payment claim. The codes created are transmitted to insurance companies in order to claim insurance and receive payment.
Medical Coders employ a collection of previously given codes for coding, which includes ICD, CPT, and HCPCS. ICD Codes, or International Classification of Diseases, are a set of codes published and controlled by the World Health Organisation (WHO).These are diagnostic codes that incorporate signs and symptoms as well as any other aberrant findings on a patient.
CPT codes, which stand for Current Procedural Terminology, are a set of codes that contain codes for the procedures of healthcare services received. HCPCS, or Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System, is a collection of codes that denotes healthcare equipment.
