                         Medical coding is the process of converting a patient's healthcare services, diagnosis, treatment, or any other abnormal findings by a healthcare professional or doctor into alphanumeric codes. These generated codes are submitted to insurance providers for claim insurance payment purposes. 

Medical Coder responsibility includes :
  • ensuring that codes are accurately assigned
  • Observing medical coding norms and policies
  • Receiving and analyzing patient charts and documents for correctness and completeness
  • Account for patient encounter coding and abstracting.
  • Investigate and analyze data requirements for reimbursement.
  • Check that the codes are sequenced in accordance with government and insurance rules.
  • Ensure that all medical records are properly filed and processed.
  • Examine medical records for gaps in documentation.
  • Assist other coding personnel as a resource and subject matter expert by reviewing and verifying documentation for diagnoses, procedures, and treatment outcomes.
  • Recognize diagnostic and procedural data
